As a celebrant, I offer a flexible alternative to a registrar led service, which can sometimes feel impersonal. Unlike a registrar’s ceremony you have the flexibility (with the owner’s permission) to choose any location for your ceremony, from a family home to a scenic woodland, a beach or a place that holds special memories for you.

If engaging your guests is important to you, we will infuse the ceremony with moments of joy, laughter, and celebration. Whether it is a touching story, a shared joke, or a meaningful ritual, these personal touches will create a ceremony that’s not only beautiful but also memorable for everyone in attendance.

Legalities of a Celebrant Led Ceremony

It should be no surprise that I’m a passionate advocate for celebrant-led weddings and the flexibility they bring to your special day. And I’m not alone, celebrant-led weddings have surged by 49% in 2024, according to Hitched.com, showing that more couples than ever are choosing a ceremony that reflects their unique love story. However, it’s important to be aware of how UK marriage laws affect this choice.

In England and Wales, a celebrant-led wedding ceremony gives you the freedom to celebrate your commitment in a setting and style that truly embody your values and personalities. While celebrants cannot legally marry you, many couples choose to complete the legal registration separately at a registry office, allowing them to enjoy a truly personalised ceremony, whether it’s in a meaningful location, with special rituals, or in a relaxed, intimate setting. In 2015, the UK Law Commission was tasked with reviewing the Marriage Act of 1836. The final report the 'Wedding Law Reform' was published in 2022 and is still under review by the government.
